Hi everybody

Sorry if I make mistakes I'm French ^ ^

After verification, the old array is wrong and what is it that must be taken for reference.

As you can see, the percentages of removal are much lower, about 0,4% (and this is good news).

Thank you to refer to this post for details.

I think I have information you want: I compared the number of stories before bleeding and the number of stories today, to see how many have been removed.

Approximately 3% of stories have disappeared for the 20 top fandoms. There must have been  4.7 million stories before, so it is 145,000 which may have been removed (I gess but it can be less).

In French, we were hit, but it seems less severely than the English side. Some translations have been removed, some MA, but many stayed. Probably the keywords did not work on our side (but this may change).

Did  many MA stay up in English ?

Note : number of stories on then May, 28 comes from Wikipedia fanfiction.net page. The actual number is what can be read yesterday on ffnet.

EDIT : If you like statistics, you can come see my fanfiction.net analysis here (google translation is your friend)

I wonder how they pick the stories. Several of my favourite Hetalia stories which definitely have MA content are still up even though they should come up in case the mods are running some kind of search for keywords.

Thanks for the information, it's useful and interesting! I especially like how you color-coded the fandoms depending on what percentage of their stories were deleted. I wonder why BtVS and Doctor Who got hit twice as badly as Sailor Moon with no fandoms falling between 5.48% and 11.73%... Heck, I wonder why those three got hit the worst.

Well, a lot of M and MA stories a really good in fact. The problem is that since they decided to remove MA section, all is mixed, which is not supposed to be. Erotic litterature is a part of the litterature et can bee very good.
I still don't appeciate bad stories, but the rigth to publish, even if it's bad, is an important part of fanfic identities.
Everybody dare to publish, there is no test or diploma to be allowed to.

Although the site has the right to make appropriate for the rules to be respected, he can do more respectfully, preventing in advance so that authors can correct or remove their own stories, after copying the reviews. There were fewer fics to process and more time to deal with errors.

The Southern Vampire Mysteries/True Blood fandom got hit, about 4/5 people had stories pulled, some for the oddest of reasons, a T rated story was pulled and went back up and a couple of M rated stories got pulled, most of the MA stuff is not on fanfic anyway ;-) Twilight got hit too, but I dont know how hard, a few guys on Twitter were saying they had stories pulled.

It's sad that True Blood/Vampire Mysteries got hit. I mean, the series in general is pretty M rated (at least I think so), so it's very stupid to pull M rated stories from a pretty much M rated category.

Damn...all those good Eric and Godric stories gone because someone wants to make True Blood for kids...-.-'

I'ma go eat some chocolate now.

It would be interesting to see what fandoms are hardest hit, regardless of popularity, based on the percentage of fics deleted as opposed to simple quantity. Kuroshitsuji, for example, seems to have a lot of M content. Even if it's not a top-20 fandom, I imagine that it will lose a larger percentage of overall content than fandoms that lean toward lighter offerings.

On this page, you have the rating repartition for Hp, Twilight and Naruto.

I am aware that fandoms are very different from each other, but the top 20 account for almost half of the stories and are fairly representative.

All stories MA have not been removed anyway, whatever the fandom. So a lot of fandom with M which are MA (in theory a true M is not deleted) will not necessarily be wiped off the map.

I'm curious as to whether the removed stories are all MA, or if other TOS violations were targeted. I know I've reported many stories for such things as non-story, interactive, plagiarism and chapters posted as seperate stories, without so much as a reply to my reports let alone any action being taken. If this is about breaking the rules, it seems they're being mighty selective about what rules they're enforcing...

I've checked on a script fanfic that I reported and it has not be removed.

Also, I came across a post on tumblr that said that are deleting any story that has summaries that are not K rated (but it sounds like the emails refer to rating as being G) or have "kill" or "blood" in the summary. I don't understand why "kill" and "blood" warrant the story to be deleted.

You've done a lot of great work here! Is there any way to get historical numbers for a smaller fandom? I'm curious how much Torchwood fic has been deleted overall but the Wayback machine failed me.

I can perhaps do something for you. I can publish the data of number of stories for each fandom, on the january 1rst.
Then, you can sort the stories of the fandom by Publish date, and compare the number of stories published before january 1rst still avaible and the history number. (is it understandable ?)
I can tried ti publish that today or tomorow.

That's really interesting, thankyou for posting :)

As for fics staying up in English, I've heard of a few things in my fandom being taken down, but nothing of mine yet. Which is a bit of a surprise considering the many 'explicit smut' cautions in my headers :P I've backed up my reviews and stats though.

Typically for that forum, they have locked the thread.

One side won't admit to the possibility of unjust deletion. The other won't admit that some people knowingly exceed the ratings rules.

It's scary right? I don't post anything above a t rating at ffnet so I wouldn't have to worry about getting deleted. And now I have to worry if I might have given a character a paper cut and mentioned the word blood. Ugh.
